How to check a casino licence in the official register

Where UKGC, MGA, GGL, Ksa, SRIJ, DGOJ, Spelinspektionen, AGCO and others publish their licence registers, what to compare and how to spot a fake licence.

A licence logo in a casino’s footer proves nothing on its own – the regulator’s public register does. This guide shows where each regulator publishes its register, what to compare once you find the entry, and the signs that a licence claim does not hold up. It is the check we run for every casino we profile; the table lists every regulator in our methodology.

Five things to compare in the register

  1. The company name. The licence holder in the register must match the operator named in the casino’s terms – the legal entity, not only the brand.
  2. The domain. Many registers list the websites a licence covers. The address in your browser must be one of them; a sister domain or a mirror site is not automatically covered.
  3. The status. Active, suspended, revoked or expired. Some registers keep expired entries visible, so read the status and the dates, not only the name.
  4. The product. A licence can cover sports betting but not casino games, or only certain game types. Check that the permission covers what you want to play.
  5. The licence number. If the casino quotes one, it must appear in the register entry – a number that does not exist anywhere is a red flag.

Quick lookup: our casino licence checker searches a domain or licence number in dated snapshots of the Curaçao and Anjouan registers, Brazil’s authorised list and the register checks behind our casino reviews – and says which of the five points above each source can and cannot confirm.

Official registers by regulator

Tier A to D is our own assessment of how much a licence from that regulator tells you (verifiability, domain attribution, enforcement, player protection, transparency) – see how we review. The last column counts the casinos we profile whose licence we confirmed in that register.

Signs a licence claim does not hold up

  • The seal is a picture, not a link – or the link goes to a page on the casino’s own domain instead of the regulator’s.
  • The company in the register is a different one from the operator in the terms, and nothing on either side explains the connection.
  • The domain is missing from a register that lists domains for every licensee.
  • Only the issuer confirms it. Some licensing bodies publish no independent register; a confirmation exists only on the issuer’s own validation page. Our profiles label this “Listed by the issuer” instead of “Confirmed in registry”.

Our guides to fake and cloned casino sites and Anjouan vs Curaçao licences go into these cases in detail.

Frequently asked questions

Does a licence mean the casino is legal in my country?

Not necessarily. A licence is issued for a jurisdiction; whether a casino may serve players in your country depends on that country’s own rules. Our country pages only list a casino as available where the national regulator’s register and the casino’s own terms both support it.

What if the register is down or blocks me?

Try again later or use the regulator’s search or validator page listed in the table. Do not rely on a screenshot or a copy hosted by the casino.

Why do some regulators have no register in the table?

Because they publish no public list we could verify. That is part of why we rate them lower: a player cannot check the claim independently.
