The name on the casino is a brand. The licence, the terms you accept and the company you would have to pursue in a dispute belong to a different name: the operating company. This guide explains how brand, operator, group and licence relate, how to check an operator yourself, and lists the operating company we documented for each casino we profile.
Brand, operator, group
- Brand – the name and domain you see (for example a casino called after its domain). A brand holds nothing: it is a trade name used by a company.
- Operating company (operator) – the legal entity named in the terms as the party to your contract. It holds the gambling licence, receives your deposits and is the entity any complaint, regulator or court would deal with. One operator can run several brands; one brand can move between operators.
- Group / parent – the company that owns the operator. Useful context (a listed group publishes accounts and is easier to find), but your contract is with the operator, not the parent.
- Payment or service entities – some terms name a second company that processes payments. That company is not the licensee and does not change who is responsible for your account.
Why the operator matters more than the brand
- The licence is issued to the operator. A register lists companies, not brand names. If the company in the terms does not match the company in the register, the licence claim fails – whatever the footer seal says. See casino licences explained.
- Jurisdiction follows the operator. Where the company is registered decides which company law applies, whether accounts are public and how realistic a legal claim is. A company in a jurisdiction with no gambling regulator can still hold a licence elsewhere – or none. The licensing authorities behind the casinos we profile each have a page: Malta Gaming Authority · Gibraltar Gambling Commissioner · Curaçao Gaming Authority · Tobique Gaming Commission · Anjouan licensing.
- Brands change hands. When a brand is sold or a licence moves, the terms are updated quietly. The operator named today may not be the one named six months ago, which is why every profile shows the date we checked.
- Responsibility can hide in a chain. Terms sometimes name an operator for the contract, a different licensee, and a third company for payments. The longer the chain, the harder a dispute becomes.
How to check an operator yourself
- Read the first section of the terms. The operator is almost always named there, with a registration number and an address. Copy all three.
- Open the regulator’s register and confirm the same company name holds the licence for the exact domain. A different company is a red flag, not a detail.
- Open the company register of the jurisdiction where that is possible – for example the Malta Business Registry or the Gibraltar Companies House – and confirm the number and status. For Curaçao and Belize the registers are not freely searchable online; the regulator’s own register is then your best source.
- Check the group claim, if any. “Part of the X group” in the terms is the casino’s statement. A listed parent names its brands in its annual report; an unlisted one often does not. We record group claims as “stated” unless we found a second source.
- Keep the address. A registered address is what a complaint to a regulator or an ADR body needs. Note the date; addresses and operators change.
Operating companies behind the 15 casinos we profile
For all 15 casinos we confirmed the operating company in the terms and, where the licence is confirmed, in the regulator’s register. 5 are registered in Curaçao. Group ownership is recorded only where the casino or the regulator states it – 5 so far – and is not researched further in company registers.

Things that should make you pause
- No operating company is named anywhere in the terms, or the terms name a company that cannot be found in any register.
- The company in the terms differs from the company on the regulator’s certificate for the same domain.
- The casino’s own pages disagree about who owns it (we list such cases under “Where sources disagree” in the profile).
- The registered address is a mailbox used by dozens of unrelated gambling brands and the terms give no other contact.
None of these proves wrongdoing. They are the questions to settle before a deposit, not after a withdrawal is refused. Every profile’s Is it legit? section shows the operator, the licence finding and the sources behind both; the crypto casinos compared page shows the licence findings side by side.
