When casinos ask for ID: KYC triggers and thresholds in the terms of 39 casinos

Every casino can ask for your ID – the question is when. We recorded what the terms of the 39 casinos we review say about identity checks: whether they name triggers, which amounts they write down, and which withdrawal rules come with them. Every row from the casino’s own documents, dated; nothing tested by us.

Key findings

  • 38 of 39 casinos say identity verification “may be required” at the casino’s discretion; 1 (Shuffle) states it as a fixed step: before first withdrawal.
  • 15 of 39 publish specific triggers – named events or amounts at which checks start; 23 use general wording only (“at any time”, “at our discretion”).
  • Thresholds: 0 casinos publish a complete set of triggers, 18 publish part of them, 17 publish none, and for 4 the documents were not accessible to us or not published.
  • 8 of 39 name at least one amount in the threshold clauses we recorded; the most frequent is EUR 2,000 (3 casinos), followed by EUR 100 (1), EUR 150 (1), EUR 300 (1). The CSV keeps the clause note next to each amount.
  • By licence: under a Tier A or B regulator 14 of 33 casinos publish specific triggers; under Tier C or D 1 of 6 (tier definitions).

Reading a KYC clause

Almost every casino keeps the right to ask for identity documents. What differs is whether the terms say when: at registration, before the first withdrawal, after a stated amount of cumulative deposits, or only “at any time”. A published trigger lets you prepare the documents before you deposit; general wording means the request can come at any point, often when a withdrawal is pending. The KYC guide explains source-of-funds checks and why “no KYC” is rarely what it sounds like; this dataset records what each casino’s own documents say, with the amounts as written.

Amounts are extracted from our dated record of each casino’s threshold clauses, never estimated. A threshold described as an example (“i.e.”) or as a point at which checks “may” start is still listed, because the record quotes it; the threshold note in the CSV keeps the wording. Regulated markets add statutory checks of their own (for example deposit limits on unverified accounts), which some terms restate.

How we checked

For each casino we read the binding terms, the AML or KYC policy and the help centre, and recorded: when the casino says verification happens, whether it names specific triggers or only general wording, whether it publishes thresholds (complete, partly or none), and the withdrawal conditions it attaches. Amounts are extracted automatically from our dated threshold record (a currency with a figure, as written) and listed only for casinos that publish at least part of their thresholds. Categories follow Methodology v4.1. We do not open accounts to trigger checks; nothing here is a test result.

What this dataset does not show

  • “None published” means the documents we read name no threshold; checks can still happen at any time.
  • Published amounts are often a point at which checks may start, not a promise that no check happens below it.
  • Amounts are as written on the date read, in the casino’s currency; they are not converted.
  • The withdrawal-rule column shows only rules recorded with the KYC policy, as summarised in our record; bonus terms add their own conditions.
  • Only casinos with a published research profile are included.

Questions

Do casinos without published thresholds skip KYC?

No. 17 of the 39 casinos publish no threshold, but their terms still reserve the right to ask for documents at any time. “None published” means you cannot plan for the check, not that it will not come.

At what amount do casinos ask for ID?

8 of 39 casinos write an amount into their threshold clauses; the most frequent is EUR 2,000. Most of these amounts are cumulative deposits or a single withdrawal, and checks can also start below them.
