Casino withdrawal rejected or pending: what to do

Why casino withdrawals get rejected, reversed or stay pending – KYC, bonus rules, closed-loop, limits, wrong network – and who to complain to by licence.

By Torben Noé · Updated 8 Oct 2026 · Casino facts as of 12 Oct 2026 · Methodology v1.6

A casino withdrawal is rejected, reversed or left pending for one of six documented reasons: identity or source-of-funds checks are still open, a bonus condition is unmet, the money must go back to the deposit method, a limit was exceeded, the address or network was wrong, or the account is under review. “Pending” is not a refusal, and nothing is lost until the casino says so in writing. This guide decodes the status words, lists the causes with clauses from the terms of the 15 casinos we profile, and gives the complaint route for each type of licence.

The four status words and what they mean

  • Pending – queued; nobody has decided anything. Some casinos build a waiting period into this stage (Betway’s terms describe up to 72 hours before processing; see our Betway profile). A pending withdrawal can usually still be cancelled, by you or by the casino.
  • Processing / approved – handed to the payment rail. For a card or bank withdrawal the bank’s clock now starts. For crypto, once the transaction has confirmations on the chain, nobody can reverse it.
  • Rejected / declined – stopped by the casino’s rules or review; the funds are back in your balance. This is the state that needs a written reason.
  • Reversed – cancelled and back in play, because you pressed “reverse withdrawal” or the casino did it: 888casino’s withdrawal policy (see our 888casino profile) returns pending withdrawals to the bankroll after seven days without completed verification. The risk is that the balance is played before a second request is made.

The status never tells you whether verification is complete or how long “pending” may last; both live in the terms. Our withdrawal-times guide explains why a published time is a target, not a promise.

Documented reasons a withdrawal is refused or held

Each cause below is quoted from the terms or policies of the casinos we profile, with the clause reference our records hold.

Identity or source-of-funds checks still open

The most common hold. The UK Gambling Commission reports that withdrawal problems are the number-one topic raised by consumers and that large operators fulfil around 99 percent of requests within 24 to 48 hours, the rest often held for checks the operator must run before paying (UKGC blog, July 2023). In the terms we recorded, the trigger is usually the first withdrawal or an unpublished threshold:

  • Shuffle: Terms 5.2 require a government ID check “in any event before your first withdrawal”; the AML policy allows withdrawals to be suspended at a risk-based threshold set at the casino’s discretion.
  • mBit: Terms 9.9 allow withdrawals to be held during identity checks; 9.3 names additional verification above 1 BTC; 9.3.a requires e-mail confirmation of a first withdrawal to a new wallet address.
  • Roobet: documents may be requested “at any time” and withdrawals restricted until identification is complete (Terms 4.9, 10.5); no thresholds published.

Mr Green (Terms 4.1.2, 6.1.2), LeoVegas (8.3) and 888casino (User Agreement 4) block payment until identity and, where required, source-of-funds checks are complete. Source of funds is a separate check from identity and can arrive after you were verified; see our KYC guide’s source-of-funds section.

A bonus is still active or a bonus rule was breached

  • Withdrawing during wagering – 888casino’s terms forfeit unwagered bonus funds if you request a withdrawal.
  • Maximum bet while a bonus is active – BitStarz caps bets at 5 EUR/USD, Shuffle at USD 10, mBit at about 28 USDT. A bet above the cap is the breach most often cited when winnings are voided; see maximum bets in our bonus-terms guide.
  • Broad “bonus abuse” definitions – BitStarz Terms 9.10 allow winnings to be confiscated and further withdrawals withheld for a player judged to have taken a bonus solely for positive expected value; mBit 5.3 voids a bonus and its winnings for depositing while free-spin features remain. We flag both as wide enough to cover ordinary play.

Plain deposits also have to be wagered before they can leave: once at BitStarz, Gamdom and Roobet, once on slots or ten times on table games at mBit, three times at Mirax, whose terms allow payments to be cancelled until this is done. Shuffle exempts a crypto withdrawal to the same wallet and network as the deposit.

Closed loop: the money goes back where it came from

Five of the 15 casinos we profile carry a documented same-method clause:

  • BitStarz Terms 8.7.13: “withdrawals have to be made to the same method that you deposited with.”
  • Mirax Terms 10: “only to the original source of funds and/or the payment method, account, wallet … from which the funds originated”; the alternative is chosen by the casino.
  • BC.Game Terms 11.3: returned to the deposit method “where reasonably practicable”, otherwise an alternative method belonging to the verified player.
  • Gamdom Terms §5: “withdrawals can only be processed back to a matching personal method”; the help centre adds that coin swapping is not available.
  • Mr Green Terms 6.2: “back to the same payment method used for deposit”, bank transfer only where that method cannot pay out.

The rule is an anti-money-laundering control, so support cannot waive it; a request to a different coin, card or wallet is the easiest rejection to avoid.

Minimums, per-transaction maximums and period caps

A request below the minimum or above the per-transaction maximum is refused by the cashier; one above a weekly or monthly cap is cut or queued. mBit caps withdrawals at 3 BTC per 7 days and 10 BTC per 30 days (Terms 9.6), Mirax at 0.14 BTC weekly and 0.56 BTC monthly (Terms 10); BitStarz (8.7.3), Gamdom (§5) and 888casino reserve instalments for large wins. Every documented cap is tabulated with dates in our withdrawal-limits guide.

Wrong address or wrong network

Cashiers validate the address format, not whether it is yours or on the right network. A withdrawal to the wrong network is usually rejected before broadcast; a deposit on the wrong network is usually not recoverable, and no terms we recorded commit the casino to recovering it. Our network-choice section explains how to match coin and network; for stablecoins, see USDT on TRC20 versus ERC20 at casinos.

Account under review, duplicate accounts, frozen funds

The widest clauses let a casino hold money while it investigates. Shuffle Terms 10.9 allow withdrawals from closed or locked accounts to be refused on suspicion of a breach or “if we deem it necessary to do so for other reasons”; Roobet’s clause 6.4 allows closure at sole discretion with the remaining funds frozen, without saying when they are released – a serious watch-out in our record. Duplicate accounts, play from a restricted country and third-party payment methods are the usual triggers. If a hold has become a closure, read what to do when a casino closes your account.

What the 15 casinos we profile state about withdrawal timing

The withdrawal-time statement we recorded for each casino and what kind of statement it is. A “target” or “most withdrawals” claim says nothing about the one pending now; only a firm maximum would.

What to do, step by step

  1. Record the state. Screenshot the cashier with status, amount, date and balance.
  2. Check your own side. Bonus still active? Different method or coin from the deposit? Amount within the limits? Documents accepted, not just uploaded?
  3. Ask support in writing for the specific reason and clause. “Security review” is not a reason; “Terms 9.3 – verification required above 1 BTC” is. Keep every reply.
  4. Fix the documented cause. Provide the document, finish the wagering, re-request to the right method. Never open a second account to get around a hold – under every set of terms we have read, that turns a delay into a confiscation.
  5. Do not reverse the withdrawal. Leaving it pending costs nothing; cancelling puts the money back in play. The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement found that patrons waiting for withdrawals were contacted, sometimes with bonus offers, and encouraged to reverse the request, and ruled the practice prohibited (NJ DGE Advisory Bulletin 2021-01). Offshore casinos are not bound by that bulletin; your only protection against the same nudge is your own decision.
  6. Ask for a written final decision. If no clause is given, or the hold passes the casino’s own published time, lodge a formal complaint through the route the terms name; that letter is what the next stage needs.
  7. Escalate by licence – below.

Escalation routes by licence

Where you can go after the casino depends on who issued the licence. Find it in the licence row of the profile, or run our step-by-step licence check.

UK Gambling Commission

None of the casinos we profile holds a British licence, but the UK route is the clearest model. The operator has 8 weeks to resolve a complaint; after that, or earlier with a deadlock letter, you can take the dispute to its approved Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) provider free of charge. The Commission itself does not resolve individual disputes (UKGC: How to complain; UKGC: Taking your complaint to an ADR provider).

Malta Gaming Authority – Betway, LeoVegas, Mr Green

Malta separates disputes from complaints. A dispute about your money goes from the operator to the ADR entity named in its terms; since April 2019 the MGA’s Player Support Unit no longer examines the merits of a dispute (MGA ADR Directive notice). A complaint that the operator is acting unlawfully or unfairly – for instance refusing to say why a withdrawal is held – goes to the MGA’s form, which lists “Payment & Withdrawal Problems” as a category and asks you to try the operator first (MGA: Lodge a complaint). eCOGRA is one ADR entity approved for both Malta and Great Britain (eCOGRA ADR); the operator’s terms name the one that applies to you.

Curaçao Gaming Authority – BitStarz, mBit, Mirax, Roobet, Shuffle

The CGA states that it “does not handle individual complaints against gaming providers”, cannot mediate or arbitrate, and cannot order an operator to pay a player, though it accepts reports because a pattern of complaints may show a breach (CGA: Online gaming). What you have is the law behind the licence: Article 5.3 of the Curaçao gambling ordinance gives a player six months from an incident to complain to the licence holder free of charge, requires written acknowledgement within one week and a reasoned written decision within four weeks (extendable once by four weeks), and obliges the licence holder to offer alternative dispute resolution at its own cost at all times (Landsverordening op de kansspelen, Art. 5.3, Dutch text). In practice: use the casino’s complaint form, cite Article 5.3 and its four-week deadline, and ask which ADR body the casino offers – we found no public CGA list of approved ADR entities.

Issuer-only registers – BC.Game, Gamdom (Anjouan)

The Anjouan issuer states that it “does not handle, mediate, or adjudicate player complaints”; its process is a complaint to the operator within 30 calendar days for payment disputes, then an ADR provider the operator pays for (Anjouan: Player complaint process). We cannot independently verify that register, which is why both profiles show “listed in issuer registry” rather than a confirmed licence. Treat the route as the operator’s goodwill plus whatever ADR it names. Public complaint platforms can move a stuck case because the casino’s listing is at stake, but they are mediators, not courts; use them after the written final decision, not instead of it.

Gibraltar – 888casino

The Gibraltar register lists the operator and brand but no domains, so the link between site and licence rests on the casino’s own statement. The Gibraltar Gambling Division’s complaints page (read 2026-10-08) asks you to complain to the operator first and says that security-related enquiries “can take between 6 and 8 weeks, sometimes longer”; if the operator’s response is unsatisfactory, the Gambling Commissioner can be asked to consider the matter. The casino’s complaints procedure and the ADR entity named in its User Agreement remain the documented first steps.

Before you deposit: making a refusal unlikely

  • Verify before the first deposit if the casino offers it; our KYC preparation checklist lists what to have ready.
  • Read the closed-loop, KYC and limit rows on the profile, and plan to withdraw to the wallet and network you deposit from.
  • One account, your own payment method, your real country; every set of terms we recorded treats duplicates and third-party methods as grounds to withhold funds.
  • Decline the bonus if you want flexibility: its wagering, max-bet and forfeiture rules only bind you once you accept it.
  • Make a small first withdrawal early – it tests the address, the network, the minimum and your verification status with little at stake.

Frequently asked questions

Why was my withdrawal rejected after I was already verified?

Identity is one check; source of funds, a new withdrawal address, an active bonus, a closed-loop mismatch or a limit are separate ones, and several terms we recorded allow documents to be requested again “at any time”. Ask for the clause.

How long can a withdrawal stay pending?

As long as the terms allow – in most offshore terms, indefinitely during a review. Published times are targets, as the table above shows. Under a Curaçao licence the law gives the operator four weeks (once extendable) to answer a formal complaint; under a British licence the whole process must end within eight weeks.

Can a casino reverse my withdrawal?

While it is pending, yes – the funds return to your balance, as 888casino’s policy does after seven days without completed verification. Once a crypto transaction is broadcast and confirmed, nobody can reverse it.

Do I have to withdraw to the same method I deposited with?

At five of the 15 casinos we profile, yes: BitStarz, Mirax, BC.Game, Gamdom and Mr Green. Where that method cannot receive payouts, the casino chooses the alternative. The others state no closed-loop rule in the documents we read, which is not the same as promising a free choice.

Who do I complain to if the casino will not pay?

First the casino, in writing, citing the clause; then the ADR body named in the terms. The MGA accepts complaints about unlawful or unfair conduct; the CGA and the Anjouan issuer do not decide individual cases. Beyond that, an independent platform and the courts named in the terms.

If the casino shows a transaction ID but the coins are not in your wallet, the question changes from “why was it held” to “where is it on the chain” – see withdrawal not arriving for how to read it in a block explorer.

The short version

A rejected withdrawal has a reason in the terms, and a pending one has a clock in the terms or the law. Get the reason in writing, fix what can be fixed, never reverse the request, and escalate along the route your licence actually provides – for most crypto casinos the operator’s own complaint procedure and the ADR it must offer, not a regulator. Only play with money you can afford to lose; if a locked balance is becoming a source of stress, the tools on our responsible gambling page are there for exactly that. 18+.
