Casino changed its terms: how to find older versions

Casino terms changed after you signed up? Find the version that applied: notices, your own copy, the casino, the Wayback Machine – and regulator rules.

By Torben Noé · Updated 15 Oct 2026 · Casino facts as of 29 Oct 2026 · Methodology v4.1

A bonus was cancelled, a withdrawal rule tightened or a fee appeared, and the casino points to its terms – but the terms on the website today are not the ones you accepted. In a dispute, the version in force when you deposited, claimed the offer or placed the bet usually decides. This guide shows how to find that version: the casino’s own notices, your own copy, a written request to the casino and public web archives. It also sets out what the UK Gambling Commission, the Malta Gaming Authority and the Curaçao Gaming Authority require when terms change, as read on 15 October 2026, and what the terms of the 39 casinos we profile say about changes. It describes rules and published wording; it is not legal advice.

The short answer

  1. Look for a version number or “last updated” date on the terms page. 28 of the 39 casinos we profile print one on the terms we read; the others do not, and a date alone does not show what changed.
  2. Search your email and the account inbox for a change notice. Regulated casinos must tell you about material changes before they apply.
  3. Use your own copy if you saved one when you signed up or claimed the offer.
  4. Ask the casino in writing for the version that applied on a given date. Under a Curaçao licence, the casino must make previous versions available on request.
  5. Check a public web archive such as the Wayback Machine, knowing that it may not hold the page or the date you need.

Why the old version matters

Casino terms are a contract you accept at sign-up, and many casinos have several documents: general terms, bonus terms, a payments policy, sometimes rules per game or promotion. A change to any of them can matter – a new maximum bet with a bonus, a shorter inactivity period, a different withdrawal limit. Whether a change can apply to something you did before it was published depends on the rules of the regulator and on the law that governs the contract. The Curaçao guideline quoted below, for example, says changes “must not apply retrospectively, except where the change does not prejudice the player, or the Licensee is correcting clear technical or contractual errors”. You can only make that argument if you can show what the terms said before.

What the terms we read say about changes

When we review a casino’s terms we record clauses from a fixed list. One of them is a clause that lets the casino change the terms without committing to tell you first: changes that bind as soon as they are published, “with or without notice”, or a promise only to “attempt” to notify. 5 of the 39 casinos we profile have such a clause in the binding terms or the bonus terms we read. For 1 of these 5 the terms we read carry no date or version either, so a change cannot be dated from the page itself. The wording below is quoted from our record of each casino, with the date we read it.

A clause like this does not mean the casino has changed anything, and it does not override the rules of its regulator or the law of your country. It means the terms alone do not promise you a notice – so your own records matter more. Across all 39 casinos, 28 print a version number or a “last updated” date on the terms we read. The terms clauses dataset lists every recorded clause and the dating of each casino’s terms, with CSV and JSON downloads.

What regulators require when terms change

UK Gambling Commission. Licence condition 7.1.1 requires that “changes to customer contract terms comply with the fairness and transparency requirements under the Consumer Rights Act 2015” and that “Customers must be notified of material changes to terms before they come into effect” (LCCP 7.1.1).

Malta Gaming Authority. Article 6 of the Player Protection Directive (Directive 2 of 2018, version 3, January 2023) goes further. Players “shall be notified of and required to expressly accept any material changes to the terms and conditions before they take effect”. A change is material if it “in any way alters the rights and, or obligations of the player”, among other things. Players who do not accept may not keep playing, “but shall be allowed to withdraw their balance according to the terms and conditions they originally agreed to”, and the casino “shall make it clear which specific parts of the terms and conditions are being added, removed, or changed”. Under article 6(6) the terms themselves must include “The version number and the date last updated” (MGA Player Protection Directive).

Curaçao Gaming Authority. The CGA’s policy guideline on terms and conditions (version 1.0, April 2026) states: “Players must be notified of any updates or changes to T&Cs. Notifications must include reference to material changes / clause numbers, include the effective date of the amended T&Cs and provide a direct link to the updated T&Cs.” Material changes “require active re-acceptance by the player”. On records, licensees “must maintain a historical archive for all T&Cs” from 24 December 2024, and “Previous versions of T&Cs must be made accessible to players upon request” (CGA policy guideline: Terms and Conditions).

Anjouan. On the licence issuer’s pages on licence conditions and regulatory standards we found no rule on changing terms or keeping old versions (read 15 October 2026). That is a statement about the pages we read, not a finding that no such rule exists.

Where several rules point the same way – notify first, say what changed, keep the old versions – a casino whose own terms promise less is still bound by its regulator. Which regulator that is for a given casino is on its profile and in our licence register check.

How to find the version that applied to you

  1. Note the dates that matter: when you registered, when you claimed the bonus, when you made the deposit and the withdrawal in question. The relevant version is the one in force on those dates.
  2. Read the current terms for a version number, a date and a change log. Some casinos list what changed between versions at the top or the bottom of the page. A clause number that moved is a sign the document was re-ordered.
  3. Search your email and the account’s message centre for “terms”, “updated”, “changes” and the casino’s name. Under the MGA and CGA rules quoted above, a material change should have come with a notice and a request to accept; the CGA notice should name the changed clauses and the effective date. A pop-up you accepted at login is also a notice – look for it in the account history if the casino keeps one.
  4. Ask the casino in writing for the version that applied. Write to support by email, not only in live chat, name the dates from step 1, and ask for the full text of the general terms and the bonus terms in force on those dates. Under a Curaçao licence, previous versions must be made accessible on request. Keep the reply, or the lack of one, for any complaint.
  5. Look the page up in the Wayback Machine. Enter the exact address of the terms page at web.archive.org and pick a date in the calendar. The Internet Archive says some sites are missing because they were “password protected, blocked by robots.txt, or otherwise inaccessible to our automated systems”, that site owners can ask to be excluded, and that pages built with JavaScript are “often hard to archive” (Internet Archive help: Using the Wayback Machine). Many casino terms pages are built with JavaScript, so an archived copy may be empty or missing. Try the bonus-terms page and the help-centre article separately; they often have their own addresses.
  6. Compare the versions clause by clause and write down exactly what changed and when it was published. That short comparison is what a complaints body needs.
  7. Complain in the right order if the casino applied a newer version to something you did earlier: the operator first, then the dispute-resolution (ADR) body or regulator your licence names. Our guide on where to complain about an online casino sets out the route.

Save your own copy before you play

The only version you can be sure of is the one you saved yourself. It takes two minutes:

  • Print the terms page to PDF from your browser when you register and again when you claim an offer. Most browsers add the address and the date to the printout – check that they are there.
  • Save the bonus terms and the payments or withdrawal page too. The clause that matters is often outside the general terms.
  • Use “Save Page Now” in the Wayback Machine to create a public, dated copy. The Internet Archive says this saves “a specific page one time” and does not save more than that one page, so save each document separately.
  • Keep the confirmation emails for registration, deposits, bonus activation and withdrawal requests; they date what you did.

How we keep our own record

Every fact on our casino profiles comes from a dated capture of the source we read, which we call a receipt: the address, the time of capture and the passages we relied on. We hold 7,814 receipts; for 6,264 of them we also keep the copy of the page we fetched with a SHA-256 fingerprint, so we can show later that the text we quoted is the text we captured. The rest document pages that blocked us or were read another way. When a casino’s terms change, the re-check is logged on its profile with the date.

These captures are our research record, not a public archive of casino terms, and they only cover the pages and dates we read. If you need the version that applied to your account, the casino is the party that has to hold it – and under a Curaçao or Malta licence, it has to tell you about material changes.

Frequently asked questions

Can a casino change its terms without telling me?

Some casinos’ terms say so: 5 of the 39 casinos we profile have a clause that lets them change the terms without committing to notify you. Their regulators may still require notice. The UK Gambling Commission requires customers to be notified of material changes before they take effect, and the Malta and Curaçao rules require notice and acceptance of material changes.

Which version of the terms applies to my bonus?

Often the version in force when you claimed it, but that depends on the regulator and on the law that governs the contract. The Curaçao guideline says changes must not apply retrospectively unless they do not prejudice the player or correct clear errors, and the Malta directive lets players who reject a material change withdraw their balance under the terms they originally agreed to.

Does the casino have to give me an old version of its terms?

Under the Curaçao Gaming Authority’s guideline, yes: previous versions must be made accessible to players on request, and the licensee must keep a historical archive of its terms. For other licences, ask anyway in writing and keep the reply.

The Wayback Machine has no copy of the terms. What now?

Archives miss many pages, especially those built with JavaScript or excluded by the site owner. Use your own copies and emails, ask the casino in writing for the version on the relevant date, and describe the change and its date in your complaint.

Terms are easiest to argue about when you saved them yourself. Keep a dated copy of every document you accept, read the change notices before clicking “accept”, and withdraw what you do not need to keep on the account.
